Exchanging Community Planning Topics in Bangalore, Dhaka, Glassboro, and Philadelphia  

 

On July 19, 2017, we hosted about 15 architecture students and faculty visiting from the SJB School of Architecture and Planning, Bangalore, India. This day-long invitation-only event included a series of interesting activities: (i) a design workshop on brownfields redevelopment planning in Philadelphia, led by Dr. Mahbubur Meenar (Rowan University) and Professor Smitha Mysore (SJB School); (ii) student presentations on planning topics in Bangalore and Dhaka, Bangladesh; (iii) a tour of Rowan University's Virtual Reality/CAVE Lab, led by George Lecakes; (iv) a tour of Rowan Boulevard project in downtown Glassboro, led by project architects of Blackney Hayes Architects, Nexus Properties, and Land Dimension Engineering; and finally (v) a tour of Rowan University's Edelman Fossil Park, led by Drs. Paul Ullmann and Kristyn Voegele. Attendees from Rowan University included Geography, Planning, and Sustainability faculty member Megan Bucknum and six students: Christina Chinnici, Trushna Fegade, Robert Kearney, Donald Morrison, Samain Sabrin, and Shane Walsh. The event was partially sponsored by the School of Earth and Environment. Here are some photos from the event.

GIS & Geovisualization Workshop @ National Summer Transportation Institute  

 

On July 26, 2017, Dr. Mahbubur Meenar conducted a half-day GIS and Geovisualization workshop. The workshop was a part of the 4-week National Summer Transportation Institute 2017, organized by CREATEs at Rowan University. Thirteen regional high school students participated in this workshop through a competitive selection process. Robert Kearney, a student of the Geography, Planning, and Sustainability department, assisted Dr. Meenar and presented several class projects. Workshop activities also included a lecture, couple of labs, an impromptu student-led project, and student presentations.
