Conversation with Jenna Monaghan, MURP 2023

How was your Rowan experience?

Jenna: My Rowan experience began in the fall of 2021 when I started the Masters in Urban and Regional Planning program. I graduated undergrad in the spring of 2020 in the midst of Covid and while looking for jobs I happened to find Rowan’s new program. My time at Rowan was a wonderful experience, filled with great professors and fellow students all with a passion for planning.

When did you begin working at the Community Planning + Visualization Lab? Did this help shape your future work goals?

Jenna: I began my work for the lab during the summer of 2022. My research focused on emotions and green space in the city of Camden. This research happened to also overlap with my final capstone project as well as my internship at Camden Community Partnership. Through this experience, I was able to conduct focus groups and apply my classroom knowledge in the real world, all while learning more about Camden and its residents. My final project involved creating a final research report which has been an invaluable piece of work to bring along with me to job interviews.

Where do you see yourself in the near future? What about in the distant future?

Jenna: Currently I am applying for jobs throughout South Jersey. I am hoping to get into transportation planning. I have always been interested in transportation, and the lack of transportation in South Jersey as well as the impact of transportation on the environment.

What interests/hobbies do you have?

Jenna: I am an avid traveler. I enjoy exploring new places and immersing myself in different cultures. During the summer you can find me on the beach with a book in my hand, or at the local farmers market picking out the perfect tomato for a tomato sandwich.
