PROJECT PROFILE: Greening Camden
Educating, Empowering, and Enriching Communities for Climate Action and Cleaner Air

Camden Environmental Education Program 2025
The Camden Environmental Education Program is a community-based educational initiative developed by the Community Planning + Visualization Lab at Rowan University in collaboration with the Camden Community Partnership. This program is designed to increase awareness of local environmental issues while engaging residents in participatory air quality research within the City of Camden. This initiative is supported by funding from the U.S. EPA, TD Bank, and the Rowan University Green Job Academy. This program is designed for adults (18 years and older) who live or work in the City of Camden, New Jersey. Access to a smartphone is required to participate in the air monitoring portion of the program. Individuals affiliated with community organizations are especially well-suited for involvement.
The program consists of two key components. To receive the Camden Environmental Education Certificate and a $100 gift card, both components of the program must be completed.

Participatory Science
Participants are equipped with small, lightweight air quality monitors and trained to collect neighborhood-level air quality data over a two-week period. A free smartphone app is used to sync with the devices.

Online Environmental Workshops
Participants also complete a series of pre-recorded community workshops covering critical topics such as climate change, air quality, urban greening, and public health. Each workshop includes a brief quiz to reinforce learning.
